Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport is now offering “marijuana amnesty boxes” for passengers who may have forgot to leave their weed a home. Even though Nevada legalized recreational marijuana, it was banned at McCarran to comply with federal laws. The boxes also let you drop other things like pills and other prohibited items like vapes and rolled tobacco products.
The first 13 boxes have been implemented across parking lots and car rental areas at McCarran. The airport’s spokeswoman Christine Crews doesn’t want anyone to get any big ideas, those bins are pretty hard to mess with. "The drawer pulls out; you drop your stuff in and you close it. You can't really get your hand in there," says Crews. "If you start tampering with them, you'd be detected pretty quickly."
The best part is that no one gets in trouble for putting their goods in the bin. Just don’t plan on getting it back. The boxes are frequently emptied by a contracted company.
