A New Jersey family is recovering after being terrorized by five men who forced their way into their home and held down two residents before stealing their cell phones to prevent them from calling 911, police say.
Only the traumatic home invasion, which occurred on Wednesday, was actually meant to be an eviction, according to authorities. It turns out the men worked for a private security company that the landlord had hired to evict the residents. In fact, the reason two of the residents were held down was so one of the men could change the locks.
Nevertheless, all five men were arrested and charged with robbery, burglary, criminal restraint, theft, criminal trespassing and assault, according to Jackson police. As of Thursday evening, the family was still in the home.
Could this family successfully sue the landlord?
