Middle Tennessee School District Closes Due to COVID-19 Outbreak

The COVID-19 Delta variant outbreak has been wreaking havoc on Middle Tennessee schools, and one local district has shut it down for the next week. Today Wilson County Schools announced that they would close every school in the district next week, with the hope of re-opening on Tuesday, September 7th.

In a letter to parents sent today, they said that it is not a remote learning period, and there would be "no teaching and learning expectations during this time". During the 10 day period, all buildings and buses will receive thorough cleanings, and the hope is that those ten days would slow the spread of cases and quarantines.

Extracurricular activities will continuye as scheduled, but nothing will be allowed during normal school hours.

This is on the heels of three schools in Rutherford County closing Monday - Christiana Middle School, Blackman Middle School, and Rockvale Elementary Grades 3-5 - due to staffing issues related to COVID-19. Individual schools in Maury and Coffee County have experienced setbacks as well.

Let's hope to get this thing under control so we can get our kids back to school normally soon!
