A man in central Florida offered a vodka spritzer to deputies during his pursuit!
The Highlands County Sheriff's Office stated that the incident began when Richard Christopher Smith, allegedly stole alcoholic beverages, from the Spring Lake Market in Sebring. Smith was driving in circles around the store in a black minivan before speeding off when deputies arrived on the scene.
During the chase, Smith held a can of Ketel One vodka spritz out the window, and said,
"I was just going to give you a drink, that's it."
Then, he drove on, as the sheriff's office continued with the pursuit, attempting to ram two patrol vehicles before his tires were flattened by spikes. After the crash, Smith lit a cigarette and attempted to walk away, but was eventually tased and arrested.
Smith was booked for two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting arrest, DUI, refusal to submit to a DUI test, and petty theft. His bond is set at $120,000.
Maybe, he'll get time off for attempting to be a gentleman, by offering the officers a beverage?
