A man, didn't want his girlfriend and cops to access his phone, so he jumped into the ocean to avoid giving up his passcode.
Really.
The man, who identified himself as AJ, fled arrest after being questioned by police while out on a boat. Two female Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers questioned a man and his girlfriend on a boat in Key West. The two officers told the couple they were searching for a different vessel, but happened to find AJ and his girlfriend on a boat with code violations. Neither AJ nor his girlfriend had IDs on them, but the boat was breaking a number of codes.
AJ became agitated, but his girlfriend plead for him to relax. AJ had a warrant out on him, and tells the officers he will “swim home.”
“AJ, I swear to f—ing god, if you jump in that water, I will be gone tomorrow,” his girlfriend threatened and asked her boyfriend to unlock his phone so she can get his boss’s number. “What is your password for your phone,” she demanded and AJ jumped into the water.
After arguing with the cops, AJ swam away.
“We are done after this, I’m telling you,’ His girlfriend shouted at him. “I’m leaving!”
AJ then took 7-minute to swim back to shore with the two officers following him, and before reaching land, the officers cuff him, and escort him to the shoreline. It’s unclear what charges AJ was facing, but it's clear he did not want his girlfriend to get into that phone.
