Linkin Park is starting a countdown to something. On Saturday, the band launched a 100-hour countdown timer with no context. The YouTube live stream features a clock counting down the hours with an accompanying chat. Fans are speculating the announcement will be about a new vocalist to replace late lead singer Chester Bennington.
There is a live chat room where fans are speculating:
“I hope they announce the new singer, LP deserves to continue their legacy,” one user wrote in the chat. Another fan asked, “If LP has a new singer and it’s female, who do you want it to be?”
Linkin Park's countdown time is scheduled to end on TODAY.
Here is an update to the rumor that Derrik from Sum41 is joining the band:
Sum 41's Deryck Whibley is throwing some cold water on internet rumors he's joining Linkin Park as their new lead singer.
After rumors began to swirl this week, Whibley addressed them in a statement posted to social media on Tuesday:
"I feel the need to dispel some current rumors. It has been brought to my attention that many people think I could be joining a reuniting band. But I just want to say, despite popular belief, I am not joining Oasis... or Linkin Park. Or any other band for that matter."
Rumors began to spread after Whibley mentioned a big announcement on Wednesday - the same day Linkin Park has a big announcement planned.
But Whibley says it's a "tour and book" announcement that he's bumping to the end of the week.
