The Internal Revenue Service is trying to track down more than 9 million people -- not to collect taxes from them, but to give them money.

That's how many people have unclaimed stimulus checks, Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit, the agency reports. “We encourage people who haven’t filed a tax return yet for 2021 to review these options," says IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. "Even if they aren’t required to file a tax return, they may still qualify for several important credits. We don’t want people to overlook these tax credits."

To help people claim the money they're owed, the IRS is keeping its free online filing tool active for an extra month, extending the deadline to November 17th, Rettig says.

What's the most amount of money you've unexpectedly come into?
