A Middle Tennessee School went into lockdown Tuesday (September 14) after a knife fight between two students, ending with one student charged with attempted murder.

According to News Channel 5, two eighth grade students fighting over a girl Tuesday morning at Rocky Fork Middle School evolved into one cutting the other with a kitchen-style knife. The injured 13-year-old student was taken to a hospital for treatment and released while the other was taken into custody. No other injuries were reported.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said the student brought a knife to school and attacked the other inside the gymnasium before classes began while other several other students were also in the gym. The school went into code yellow lockdown, but it was lifted by the early afternoon.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and carrying a weapon with intent on school property.

This is the second time in the two that a Rutherford County school temporarily went into lockdown, however due to much different circumstances. Earlier this month, Oakland High and Oakland Middle schools in Murfreesboro were set on edge after reports of shots fired and a scream. The lockdown was lifted after it was determined that the cause was an expecting couple announcing a gender reveal.
